In 1958, Bob and Lois Mathias, Hoosier natives (folks from Indiana), arrived in Anderson Valley. Bob, a teacher and coach, fell in love with the area's beauty during a previous visit and applied for a position at Anderson Valley High. He was accepted, and soon he, Lois, four kids, a horse, and a dog made Anderson Valley their home. Over time, Bob moved into administration at the school.

Always an adventurer, Bob later accepted a position in São Paulo, Brazil, where they spent three years exploring and making lifelong memories. After returning to the U.S., they eventually settled back in Anderson Valley on their beloved ranch, Alpine Meadows.In 1976, Bob and Lois returned to Alpine Meadows, and Bob retired from his school career. Uncertain about the future, Bob explored different opportunities, including real estate. He joined a local realtor, Veryl Baxter, and soon realized that while business was slow, he had a knack for it. By 1979, Veryl offered Bob the business, and Rancheria Realty was born.

As the business grew, Bob invited his youngest son, Tim, to join him in 1981. For the next 20 years, they worked side by side. When Bob decided to retire at age 80, Tim’s sister, Sheri, stepped in to learn the business and continue the family legacy.

Sheri joined Rancheria Realty in 2001 after retiring from another career. She learned the business by working alongside her father, Bob, and later partnered with Tim to continue growing the company.

In 2017, Tim’s son, Josh, graduated from college and joined Rancheria Realty, carrying on the family tradition. Josh had always dreamed of working in the family business, having grown up tagging along on property showings with his dad.

Now in 2024, Josh is taking over as Broker, while Tim transitions to an associate role with a slower pace. With gratitude and pride, the third generation of the Mathias family continues to serve the real estate community from their historic yellow house in Boonville. Stop in for a visit!
