What we love about where we live.

Tim Mathias

“There are many things that I love about the Anderson Valley and greater Mendocino County.  I love the diversity of topography, the mountains, valleys and rugged coastline, and the diversity of vegetation.  The towering redwoods, the majestic oaks, and the lovely grasslands.  There are so many things that grow well here as well, from flowers to fruits and veggies, to lovely and productive grapevines. I love that a traffic jam is 4 cars ahead of you on the Hwy, and urban and suburban sprawl is just something down the road a bit. The air is fresh and the hills are lovely, and the weather is great.  Lastly, I love my country neighbors.  There is a great diversity here and yet there is a lot of common ground.  There is always some chatter at the post office with neighbors, greetings from people I know at the store, or restaurant.  It is country living at its finest. There are times when I take it for granted, but it is often my clients that bring me back to reality, when they say how lucky I am to live in such a lovely and peaceful place.  I reflect a bit and agree, yes I am a blessed man.“

“Arriving in Anderson Valley in 1958 via the "old" Boonville Road at the young age of 9 left me with two lifetime impressions.  At the time, my dad said: "This is God's country."  Later when a friend visited from Indiana, the friend, green from the curves of the "old" Boonville Road said: "That's because only God would want it."  There is no place on earth that was graced with more natural beauty than Anderson Valley.  And, those terrible curves have provided a buffer from the growth that so many other beautiful areas of California have experienced.  So, here I am many years later loving the beauty and the size of our wonderful valley.  For many years I have also had the pleasure of being a member of the Historical Society Board.  I often marvel at how much our community has changed and yet how much it remains the same.  We are folks who love our valley and love contributing to the community, always appreciating the special place we get to home.”

“Mendocino County has so much diversity. I love the rugged beauty of our pristine coastline and historical coastal towns, the dense Redwood and Fir mountain land, and the oak-studded grasslands. There are great communities here filled with people who care about their neighbors. I happen to know many of these caring folks as I volunteer with them on the Anderson Valley Fire Department.”
